We will be having a debate parents/fundraiser meeting on October 15th at 6:30 PM at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School in the Media Center. Our agenda will cover: Review remaining debate calendar Answer outstanding questions Start Planning for November 23rd Debate tournament being hosted at Armstrong & Cooper The Robbinsdale Debate team hosts a tournament each year as our one and only fundraiser for the program.  Having parent support is vital in order to pull off the tournament! Judging Debate I expect the meeting to last 45 minutes. For those of you who are new to the Robbinsdale Armstrong & Cooper High School we hope that you are interested in joining the Robbinsdale Debate Team.  A few bits of information that will help you. Why Join Debate? - "The Wall Street Journal report did specifically highlight a “consistent trend” that dedicated participation in debate has significantly increased the success rate of college applicants at all schools which track such data. I will update this as we start. But expect around 1PM to have results if any of the Robbinsdale kids have cleared to elimination rounds - or approximately the top 60. Update #1 - Robbinsdale Armstrong Junior Andrew Urevig advances to the round of sixty. Andrew will have two more rounds today before the next cut to the top 30 students. Congrats and good luck to Andrew. Update #2 - Senior Celisia Stanton has qualified to the round of sixty in LD debate and now enters the double slim portion. Good luck. Robbinsdale Qualifies to National Tournament…again!

The Robbinsdale Debate Team has done it again although this time in Congressional Debate.  Completing at the 2013 National Qualifying Tournament at Minneapolis Community & Technical College on February 22nd, juniors Andrew Urevig and Olivia Heusinkveld both qualified to the 2013 National Debate Tournament. During the event, students from around the state take on the role of Senators and House members while debating a variety of bills and resolutions.  Robbinsdale Armstrong student Andrew Urevig competed in the Senate debating bills such as immigration reform and balance budget amendments.  Andrew finished in second place which qualified him to the tournament.  Robbinsdale Cooper student Olivia Heusinkveld debated in the House of Representatives covering items such as changing the legal voting age to 16 and a resolution to dissolve the electoral college.  Olivia…

Robbinsdale Armstrong & Cooper Headed to Birmingham, AL for National Debate Tournament

Robbinsdale Cooper senior Celisia Stanton and Robbinsdale Armstrong senior Claire Peavey and her partner junior Tanner Berris have qualified to represent Minnesota at the 2013 National Debate and Speech Tournament to be held in Birmingham Alabama. After two long days of debate at Eagan High School, Celisia Stanton faced off against fellow Robbinsdale teammate Andrew Urevig to decide who was going to represent both the district and state in Lincoln-Douglas debate.  After a fourty-five minute debate on if rehabilitation ought to be valued over retribution in the criminal justice system, Celisia edged her teammate on a 2-1 decision. Here are the details for the 2013 NFL Debate Qualifier. School: Eagan High School Friday - Leave Cooper/Armstrong at 1:30 PM. Only LD will be debating this day. If PF teams wish to come along please let me know right away if you are in. We have semi-limited space so I just need to make we figure out how we are getting people to and from. Armstrong Captures Lincoln-Douglas Debate Championship / Cooper Advances to Quarter-Finals in Public Forum

Robbinsdale Armstrong junior Andrew Urevig has captured the 2013 MSHSL Lincoln-Douglas State Debate Championship.  Over two days of debate Andrew entered elimination rounds as the number one seed and the only competitor to not lose any debates.  Andrew defeated Richard Shmikler from St. Louis Park on a 5-2 decision in the final round of debate to become the first Armstrong student to win the state championship and the second overall at Robbinsdale.  Andrew becomes the seventh student in the 112 year tournament history to reach the final round in two-consecutive years - the first since Robbinsdale Cooper graduate Dan Willey did it in 2007 and 2008. Robbinsdale Debate Qualifies to State Tournament

Robbinsdale Armstrong and Robbinsdale Cooper will be heading back to the MSHSL State Debate Tournament. Senior Claire Peavey and juniors Andrew Urevig and Tanner Berris will represent Armstrong.  Andrew finished as the Section 4AA Champion and goes back to the state tournament after taking 2nd place last year.  This will mark the second time Robbinsdale Armstrong has qualified to the state tournament. Seniors Collin Brown and Celisia Stanton, junior Olivia Heusinkveld and sophomore Seth Thompson will represent Cooper.  Celisia will be attending the state tournament for her second time.  Collin will be the first student in 112 year history of the MSHSL State Debate Tournament to qualify four times in Lincoln-Douglas debate.  This marks the ninth year in a row Robbinsdale Cooper has qualified to the state debate tournament. “To be…
